What Is Double Glazed Glass?
Double glazed glass is made of two panes of glass with a sealed gap between them. The gap holds dry air or an inert gas such as argon. An aluminium or warm-edge spacer and a two-stage seal hold the panes apart.
The finished panel is called an insulated glass unit (IGU), or a DGU (double glazed unit).
How Insulated Glass Units Work
The sealed gap is what does the insulating. Heat and sound travel easily through solid glass, but they lose much of their energy crossing a still layer of air or gas.
